The The Great Migration safari itinerary.

This magnificent safari follows the migration path between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara where hundreds of thousands of animals thunder past in search of greener pastures.

The first class Serena properties have been specially selected for their locations, and you may even be lucky enough to witness one of nature's great events.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest unbroken volcanic caldera, whose steep sides form a natural enclosure for a wide variety of wildlife; an estimated 25,000 animals, including the 'big five' inhabit the interior of the crater.

The Serengeti is Tanzania's largest and best-known national park, with a massive concentration of migratory animals who move around the park according to the availability of food.

Finally, into the world-famous Masai Mara, one of the most enthralling wildlife theatres on earth. The reserve is host to countless species, including the 'big five' (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) and, of course, the incredible spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration.

This safari is conducted in 4x4 vehicles.


DAY 1 MONDAY HEATHROW-NAIROBI
Fly from Heathrow overnight to Nairobi.

DAY 2 TUESDAY NGORONGORO
On arrival connect with your flight to Kilimanjaro airport, near Arusha, where you will be met and driven to the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for lunch. Later continue to the Ngorongoro with a brief visit to the Olduvai Gorge, which is often referred to as 'The Cradle of Mankind' and is one of the most prehistoric sites in the world. DAY 3 WEDNESDAY NGORONGORO
Drive down into the crater for a full day of game viewing (subject to change). This extinct volcano plays host to wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, gazelles, elephants, rhinos and big cats. Visit a local Masai Village. Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge. (b,l,d)

DAY 4 THURSDAY SERENGETI
After breakfast, drive to the Serengeti National Park. Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge, set high on a ridge commanding panoramic views, draws its inspiration from the circular 'Rondavel' dwellings and winding paths of a traditional Masai village. DAY 5 FRIDAY SERENGETI
Take an early morning balloon flight over the Serengeti and a 'bubbly' bush breakfast (optional extra) or an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Later enjoy an afternoon game drive. Overnight: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. (b,l,d)

DAY 6 SATURDAY WESTERN SERENGETI
After breakfast, drive to the Western Corridor with game viewing en route to the Kirawira Tented Camp, the epitome of colonial-style safari luxury. Lunch and afternoon game drive. Overnight: Kirawira Tented Camp. (b,l,d)

DAY 7 SUNDAY MASAI MARA
After breakfast drive to the Kenya/Tanzania border at Isebania with a packed lunch. Change of vehicle, continue safari with game viewing en route to the Mara Serena Lodge. Overnight: Mara Serena Safari Lodge. (b,l,d)

DAY 8 MONDAY MASAI MARA
An opportunity to enjoy an early morning balloon flight over the Mara followed by a 'bubbly' bush breakfast (optional extra), or an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Time to relax by the pool and marvel at the endless panorama which stretches out before you. A second game drive will take place this afternoon. Overnight: Mara Serena Safari Lodge. (b,l,d)

DAY 9 TUESDAY EXTENSION OR HEATHROW
Return to Nairobi (360 km), then proceed with your chosen extension or return to Heathrow. (b)
