The Kariega Game Reserve

Kariega offers spectacular close up viewing of lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu, wildebeest and waterbuck all from open 4x4 Landcruisers on a beautiful 9000 hectare private game reserve.

This family-owned and operated private game reserve spans a huge expanse of pristine wilderness in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The reserve combines spectacular and dramatic vistas with an abundance of African game and wildlife in its natural habitat.

Luxury accommodation and fine dining in game lodges nestled into the African bush, allows guests to unwind in comfort as they settle into the ordered rhythms of nature.

Kariega Private Game Reserve is bordered in the east and west by the picturesque Kariega and Bushman’s Rivers. As well as twice daily safari drives in open Landcruisers you can also enjoy the unique eco systems of the rivers on a tranquil boat cruise.

Kariega main lodge – 4 star

Kariega Main Lodge offers a relaxed and friendly environment to enjoy the African bush. The lodge has been expertly integrated with the surrounding bush to create a natural environment where the guests can enjoy traditional meals in the restaurant, a drink at the bar or a quiet a swim in the pool. All 21 log chalets, with large private viewing decks (some with private pools) offering privacy and stunning views of the Kariega River valley. All the log chalets are air-conditioned, with en-suite bedrooms, fire place and satellite TV's. Each has a spacious lounge and living area which is great for socializing.

Ukhozi Lodge – 4 star deluxe

Ukhozi Lodge truly captures the romance and intimacy of Africa. Nestled in the bush you will discover 10 superbly appointed air-conditioned luxury suites crafted from log, each with a private plunge pool and deck offering panoramic views of the valley. The Lodge boasts unique African-style lounges, restaurant and boma with an outdoor pool. Here, guests can unwind in front of warm log fires, enjoy sumptuous cuisine or simply share experiences of the African bush.

Kariega River Lodge - 5 Star

River Lodge is one-of-a-kind. 10 spacious, air conditioned and tastefully appointed thatched suites meander along the banks of the Bushman’s River, offering the most discerning of guests luxurious peace and tranquillity. Guests can relax, viewing game and enjoying the stunning vistas from their own private patio.
Inside the Lodge guests can find a quiet spot in one of the lounges, page through a book in the library, relax at the pool or take in the view from the magnificent deck which overhangs the river. Unique features include excellent river fishing and crabbing.
